Stuck Upside-Down on the X-Coaster
My worst nightmare realized! This park is only about an hour away from me, and I couldn't believe this story when I saw it. Can you imagine being stuck upside-down on a roller coaster for over 30 min?!?! And of course they had to be at the very highest point when it happened. It's over 150 feet high. We went to this park last year with the intention of riding this new ride. However, the ride hadn't opened yet so we had to settle for the other coasters. I don't think I'll be going back now!
Vivienne Westwood
OMG! I wonder how lightheaded they were getting by the time they were righted!!
1I can't even imagine!
2This is so scary!! I watched a video on one that did this in Germany {I think} and the people were stuck upside down for hours!! Many needed medical treatment after being rescued
3How on earth did it get stuck? You'd think it would just keep rolling if it's on such a steep part.
4Good question sticky--I don't know why it didn't just roll. It seems like there would be SOME way to manually crank it down or something in the case of power failure.
5that is sooooo scary! i couldn't imagine. that is one of my worst fears as well! eeeeek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6Oh jeez, atox, hours?!? I think at that point I'd skip the hospital and go straight to the institution!!!
7They said a power outage to the park made the emergency break kick in and lock down. People are threatening to sue.. but is the outage orginated outside the park..not the parks fault the saftey brake did its job. That is why you pass about 10 warning signs saying ride at your own risk. Wait until a ride has a death toll. We went to Six Flags in Ca and rode Goliath about a month after someone died on it..
8Geesh at this point I won't even ride Space Mountain at Disneyland. The hubby and I were on it one time when it broke.. stopped in the darkness, all the graphics/music stopped and it is a gravity ride with spaced emergency stops. So we stopped but could still hear the other cars rolling until they hit their stops. Then they turned on the lights and it was the scariset rinky dink traveling carnival metal monstrosity that you have ever seen. It was like holy sh*t.. I dodn't need to see that!! No thanks.. I won't get on something like that at a carnival and people do die at the happiest place on earth.. I will stick to pirates in the future. Though I did get stuck on Pirates one time and got a concussion.. but that another story! LOL! Just for future reference Popples the hanging lanterns in PotC ride.. they look like they are hanging from chains and therefore should give if you hit your head on them jumping from your boat when the ride breaks.. but ah its a Disney illusion.. those mofo's are as solid as a brick wall. And makes a lovely reverberating BBBOOOOOONGGGGG when you hit your head on them!
9Imabeliever, OMG, I got stuck on Pirates recently, I got stuck on The Haunted Mansion, lying down, pointed backwards, when I went the other day. Neither lasted long thank goodness. I don't know if it happened when you were on Pirates, but the "castmembers" announce, "Sorry folks, we erhm, have some problems on the uh...high seas." LOL
I'll remember to avoid the lanterns!
10OMG that makes my palms start sweating!!!
11id f*ckin freak out big time.
12
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
13Wow. That sounds like it would make me sick! And dizzy. And want my mommmy!
14LOL Ima! When I was a kid, on Pirates, it stopped I got out and all of a sudden it just started again - my Dad barely got out. My mom had to go through again and my brother got to go through again.
15That is so scary. It's really amazing the amount of people that get hurt on rides and it doesn't make it to the media. Diasneyland, for instance, wants us to always believe it's the "Happiest place on earth", so it goes through a lot to make sure that negative news doesn't make it to news.
16LOL! Pirates broke right before we made it back to the "dock". Right in front of the parrot and the treasure chest where the stalls are to get on. The pirate worker said sorry folks you have to sit there for 45 min to an hour and then disappeared. Everyone dissappeared. Just four boats worth of prople going Hey that sucks! The park was about to close and we wanted to go on one more ride so when everyone started to abandon ship we were game. The trouble was you had to make a leap of faith from the boat to the 4 inch wide 5 ft tall brick wall above the stalls. Some cute guys were helping which made me a little nervous cause I was rocking the cute short skirt. The girl before me almost didn't make it..the guys caught her but she splashed water onto the bricks..so I moved over about two feet and jumped..not noticing that I lined up perfectly head level to the lantern. I gracefully jumped, nailed the landing and then my head into the latern..that then gave a super impressively LOUD resounding BBBOOONNNGGGG that echo'd down the empty hallway, followed by a collective WHOAAAA!!! from the escapees. After a TADA.. I dissolved into uncontrollable laughter which is my standard fall back emotion when I hurt myself doing something stupid.. then ran off to try to get on one more ride with double vision and a killer headache. I just hope some bored security camera guy caught that and peed his pants laughing.
17And Haunted Mansion always breaks down or the have to turn it off breifly to let people with handicaps on. The worst though is being stuck on Small World!!
18Disneyland.... geez sometimes I need to look harder before I hit the post button!!!
19Was this the park in Hot Springs, melsalicious?
20Whoa! How did their heads not pop!!! Just one more reason ya couldn't pay me to get on a roller coaster.
21You don't like roller coasters, Jamers? You crazy!
22No way Jenna!! Well, it's not that I don't like them, I'm actually scared to death of em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me and heights go together about as much as me and spiders1
23!
24HAHAHHAHAHA!!!! Thanks for adding the extra exclamation point in a post by itself
I see you
mean serious business
25
I'm still shakin'!
26
@ Jamers' extra !
27I saw this on the news last night, and I can't imagine either! I'd feel so ill after hanging there so long.
28~
"Incarcerate Parasite and Celebrate!"
Thats crazy! My bf actually told me about this news story. I cant imagine being upside down for that long!
29I heard this morning that the park is being very generous and giving them all season passes?!?! Uh...I think I'd have to tell them where to stick their season passes. But the local power company also announced that the outage was due to a bird or squirrel on the line outside the park. Not the park's fault. But they still are getting major press for this and I'd be doing damage control in any imaginable way.
Yes, JennaVennaBoBenna, it's the one in Hot Springs.
30Thanks melsaliciousness..... I like to be well informed.
31JennaVivaciousness, I am happy I could add to your knowledge.
32You are wise melsaliciousnessocity
33Ah yes, JennaVivaciousnesspalooza, that is why I share my wisdom with my people.
34Ok..so a bird or a squirrel can take down an entire amuesment park and put people at risk.. and why do they not have a generator for such instances?
35Amen, Ima. I was thinking the same thing. A large amusement park relying solely on electricity doesn't have a contingency plan for power outages?
